Dor-O-Matic Falcon Panic Devices And Hardware
Dor-O-Matic Falcon 990/1990 Series – The 990/1990 exit device series is Dor-O-Matic’s crossbar concealed vertical rod panic device. It features hardened steel latches and adjustable strike. Introduced in the late 1960’s, it is one of the most popular devices in the commercial door industry today.
Although the 990 series is no longer manufactured, most of the 1990 series exit device parts will work with it. If you need to replace a 990 series exit device, the 1990 is an exact replacement. These Falcon panic devices are non-handed when sold complete, however, some of the replacement parts are handed.
Dor-O-Matic Falcon 1090/2090 Series – The 1090/2090 series is a crossbar style rim panic device. These Falcon panic devices along with the 990/1990 concealed vertical have been the mainstay of the Dor-O-Matic Falcon product line since the late 1960’s.
The 1090’s are no longer produced, but the 2090 series exit device is an exact replacement. This device is handed and is usually used on narrow stile metal doors, but you can purchase adaptor plates and use it on any style of commercial door.
Dor-O-Matic Falcon 1390 Series – The 1390 panic device series was a concealed vertical rod mid panel device. It was introduced in the late 1970’s and was manufactured up until about 2001. Most of the parts for these Falcon exit devices models are no longer available, but some of the latches are the same as the other models. Call or email us for more information on this series of Falcon panic devices.
Dor-O-Matic Falcon 1490 Series – The 1490 series is a concealed vertical rod device and is considered their most heavy-duty commercial door panic device. It is built with rugged steel operating mechanisms and heavy-duty end caps. Like all Dor-O-Matic Falcon panic devices, this series has a Grade 1 rating, the highest possible.
Dor-O-Matic Falcon 1590 Series – The 1590 series is a rim device and is considered their most heavy-duty rim style panic device. It is built with rugged steel operating mechanisms and heavy-duty end caps. These particular Falcon panic devices also have a Grade 1 rating.
Dor-O-Matic Falcon 1690 Series – The Dor-O-Matic 1690 panic device is a concealed vertical rod device. This exit device was introduced in the mid 1990’s as a replacement for the Dor-O-Matic 1990 series. The 1690 can be used to retrofit the 1990, and uses the same rods and latches.
The Dor-O-Matic 1690 can also come with electric latch retraction to control entry into your building. With cast metal center cover and end caps, these are very heavy-duty Falcon panic devices for your commercial doors.
Dor-O-Matic Falcon 1790 Series – The 1790 series is a rim device and has the same look as the Dor-O-Matic 1690 series exit device, but it has latches on the side of the exit instead of the top and bottom. The 1790 series was introduced in the mid 1990’s as a replacement for the Dor-O-Matic 2090 series.
The 1790 can be used to retrofit the 2090 and uses the same hole spacings. This series of Falcon exit devices can also come with electric latch retraction to control entry into your building. These Falcon exit devices also have cast metal center cover and end caps and are very heavy-duty.
Dor-O-Matic Falcon 2390 Series – The 2390 panic device series is a concealed vertical rod mid panel device that was the replacement for the 1390. Introduced in 2001, these are heavy-duty Grade 1 Falcon panic devices. A mid panel device is a panic device that is mortised into the door, so it projects out less than standard commercial Falcon panic devices.

Dor-O-Matic Falcon Exit Devices Manufacturer
Dor-O-Matic got its start around 1955 in Chicago, Illinois. The products that they produced were pivots and door closers for storefront doors. They were known for their offset pivots sets, floor, overhead door closers and automatic door openers. In the late 1960’s, they also introduced some commercial door exit devices.
Dor-O-Matic was sold to Republic Industries in the late 1970’s and then to Newman Tonks in the 1980’s. In April of 1997, the door hardware company was purchased by Ingersoll Rand.
In 2007, they changed the name to Falcon and put all of the Dor-O-Matic and Monarch Brands under that name. Today, the Falcon panic devices and commercial product line is under the umbrella of Allegion along with other commercial door manufacturers such as Von Duprin, LCN, Schlage and many more.

The Doromatic 1790 rim device is typically used in applications where maintenance is a concern because the rim device has fewer parts and pieces than current exit devices. The result is less maintenance and adjustment. The Doromatic 1790 may also be used to retrofit a Doromatic 2090 series crossbar device.

Dor-O-Matic 1690/1790/2390 Dogging Hex Shaft
The Dor-O-Matic 1690/1790/2390 Dogging Hex Shaft is the piece that your dog key (allen wrench) fits into the lock the device in the open or dogged position. This shaft is used on the 1690, 1790, and 2390 device. The Dor-o-Matic Panic Devices have been around since the late 1960’s, but have most recently been known as the Falcon Panic Device from a name change they had in about 2008. They are basically the same device, with the same parts, just a different name plate. The part that the hex key fits into is only about 1/4" deep, because of that these tend to get rounded out, so the key will not move the shaft.
To remove the old shaft just pull with a pair of Channel Locks or Pliers. To reinstall, just press it back in to position, you might have to bend the holding tabs back down, but we very rarely have to do this. The manufacture part number on this is SHAFT.101.
